Infrastructure as a Services (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS) are different levels of cloud service provision. As a simple analogy, IaaS would be cooking dinner at home, PaaS would be getting a takeaway and SaaS would be eating out! CloudBridge encompasses all three models.

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) – delivers infrastructure that usually includes virtualised hardware, file or object storage, servers, data centre space and network components such as load balancers, network firewall. It allows customers to build their systems without physically having to host or manage them on site.

Platform as a Service (PaaS) – delivers a platform that includes an operating system and application services, providing a framework for customers to develop, customise and manage applications (at scale).

Software as a Service (SaaS) – delivers applications over a network (usually the internet) on a subscription service. Common examples would be Salesforce, Dropbox, GoToMeeting.

Under GDPR legislation, cloud customers whose data is moved outside of the United Kingdom must be informed and have the option to opt out. Choosing Daisy as your cloud provider eliminates this issue. All customer data is held within its secure UK-based data centres. Where we design Azure-based solutions, we can specify the location to be UK-based Azure services.

Not entirely. The pay-as-you-go model of the cloud is transforming the way organisations need to think about their IT resources. This consumption model makes it hard to predict exact monthly costs. However, Daisy will work with you to make sure there are no surprises when it comes to costs.

When consuming any cloud platform, ensuring agreat user experience is key. This becomes particularly apparent when you look at the speed at which the cloud performs. By providing the correct level, type and speed of connectivity, Daisy can ensure that the cloud performs equal or better than a more traditional on-premise solution.

By providing dedicated links to the cloud platforms offering low latency and high bandwidth, it becomes an issue of how well tuned the application is and not what the limitations are of connections.

The key to public cloud is to place the workloads within the best geographic proximity to the users who will consume them. In more remote areas of the world, where there is no point of presence for public cloud and connections are unreliable, performance can be affected. However, in the majority of cases, speed is not a concern when the initial connectivity has been designed to meet the business needs.

Hybrid cloud can in many cases offer increased performance over placing all workloads into a single cloud instance. By placing certain workloads closer to either the users or to the interdependent services, performance can be ensured. High-performance workloads can be placed onto dedicated hardware to ensure the best possible performance, while more standard workloads can be provisioned on shared resources still ensuring that the required performance is delivered.

The term ‘cloud compliance’ can relate to many different industry standards and regulations that cloud customers need to comply with. Often, customers want to know the location of their data and the safest solution here is to use a cloud service which locks data to one location or at least keeps it within one jurisdiction – such as the EU.
